Creating a course description

This is a two unit course whose aim is to introduce students to the concepts, principles and applicability of Open and distance learning specifically the course will introduce you concept of ODL, theoretical perspectives and the scope of ODL Grobaly, in Africa and in Tanzania.The course will also explore issues of planning and management, ICT and media, student support in teaching and learning through ODL. To facilitate this understanding the course will examines research and practice in ODL and discuss some succesiful ODL intervention in Africa.

Objective of the course

By the end of the course student should be able to

1.Explain key concept of ODL

2. Trace the history of ODL

3.Identify the role of ODL

4.Analyse management issues in ODL

5.Media and technology in ODL

6.Research priorities in the field of ODL

The target audience

This is a core course for all BEd ( ADL) students as well as for those undergoing the postgraduate diploma in education (PGDE) programme.This is also elective course for all undergraduate programme

Course duration

This is a one year course

Dear Joseph, Bravo for being the early bird.

Thank you for sharing your brief course description.

I can see that in some section you have applied Open Distance Learning principles of addressing students directly so that they feel your individualised attention towards them. Addressing ODL students personally helps them not to feel isolated. However, try to make sure that you are consistent with this principle at all times, e.g. the course objectives, introductory session could be rephrased from "By the end of the course student should be able .." to "By the end of the course YOU should be able to..."

 

It is also highly recommended that all your course objectives should be measurable, e.g. Objective 1. "Explain key concept of ODL" (this is a good and measurable objective) vs. Objective 2. "Trace the history of ODL" (This is not quite easy to measure)

I also wish you had shared your response within the initial activity post that I had created so that we can all follow along on one page.
