This course aims to equip students with knowledge and skills needed for conducting youth work project. Project work is an occupational requirement for youth workers. This course will enable students to chart out intervention strategies as well as give them ability to learn the best way of dealing with issues from other experts.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course, students should be able to;
- Apply theoretical knowledge of youth work in various social settings,
- Communicate effectively both verbally and non-verbally,
- Engage with community in identifying and analyzing their social problems,
- Analyze, plan and design appropriate alternative interventions
- Collaborate with experts in working as a team,
- Produce a sound project report that can be used to inform practice, and
- Use project reports to inform development activities in order to improve practice.
COURSE CONTENTS
Youth work project paper is a core course to all students taking ICY. Students are expected to conduct studies in different youth related institutions. This course will be graded after writing and submitting a youth work project paper individually. At the beginning of every academic year the Department of Professional and Continuing Studies will identify the project topics to be used by students in that particular academic year. The project topics will be available in Moodle Platform so that every student registered for this course can be able to access the information. Every student will be required to choose a topic of interest under the given project topics.
The Department of Professional and Continuing Studies requires all students registered for this course to follow the following format when they are writing their youth work project paper.

In the academic year 2019/20, students will choose to write project paper from the following project topics:
- The role of youths in community development
- The effects of STD’s on youth health and relationships
- The influence of drug and alcohol abuse on deviant behavior
This is activity has to be submitted at the end of August 2020
